You Should Invest in Glass

Two shower screen care tips

Here are some shower screen care tips anyone with this feature in their bathroom should follow.

Clean the shower screen regularly and correctly

Those who have shower screens in their bathrooms that they want to keep in excellent condition must clean these screens regularly, and ensure that they do this task correctly. For example, it's common for soap scum to accumulate on shower screens. Ideally, this soap build-up on a screen should be removed several times a week (if the shower is in regular use) to prevent thick, solid layers of it from forming on the glass.

This task is best done immediately after someone has taken a shower and the bathroom is still filled with steam, as the warmth of this steam will temporarily loosen the soap scum and allow the person cleaning this feature to easily wipe it off the glass with a microfibre cloth. If a person allows the soap scum to accumulate on their shower screen for several weeks and then tries to remove it when the bathroom is cold and dry, the only way they could effectively do this would be to use a scouring pad and a harsh detergent. The combination of these two products could leave the shower screen's glass very scratched.

Ensure the bathroom's moisture levels are under control

Those who want to take care of their shower screens should also keep their bathrooms' moisture levels under control. It is normal for a bathroom in which several people regularly shower or bathe to be humid, due to the steam created by the hot shower or bathwater. Furthermore, these bathing activities will result in the shower screen getting soaked with water directly.

These high moisture levels can affect the condition of a shower screen, as they may encourage mould and mildew to form around the shower screen's frame, and may eventually result in the frame and any other metal hardware the screen has (such as a handle, screws, etc.) to corrode. Water droplets that aren't regularly wiped off the screen's glass may also lead to water stains forming on it.

If a person wants to prevent their shower screen from deteriorating in these ways, they should ventilate their bathroom every time they shower or take a bath. This can be done by either keeping the extractor fan switched on for a long period or, if they don't have a fan, by opening the bathroom window and the door to let the steam out. They should also regularly wipe water droplets off the screen with either a soft microfibre cloth or a squeegee. Lastly, they should keep some clean, dry cloths by the screen and quickly wipe the areas along the screen's frame after the shower is used to mop up extra water that might be sitting in these sections.
